Boat Trip to Vilsandi Island

Vilsandi is a small island on the western coast of Saaremaa. This is the first nature protection area in the Baltics dating from as early as 1910 (The Republic of Estonia was founded in 1918).

The trip starts from Kihelkonna via a 3 km long cobblestone road, built by the Russian army in 1914, to a small harbour. Our captain will take you to the island on his small romantic wooden boat. The trip takes about 45 minutes, you can enjoy the beautiful views of the islets and wildlife and get good photos during the trip.

The skilled guide will take you on a nature walk through Vilsandi. During the walk you'll learn about the first nature protection area in both Estonia and Russia, the unique nature and the wildlife of the island and also the passed away times when Vilsandi was a busy island of local sea farers, shipbuilders and fishermen. Nowadays there is only two men living there. We walk you to the 200-year-old lighthouse on the westernmost corner of the island.

This is the place to enjoy the view of the coastal islets, relax and swim (the last is of course weather dependent). Everybody will cut it's own boat out of pine bark and a boat rally will be held. After that you can have a picnic on the grass (or a proper lunch in a tourism farm). Finally we will walk back to the harbour and the boat will take us back to Saaremaa.

The total sum of the boat trip is fixed. The boat can take up to 10 people.

Price includes: professional multilingual guide, transfer by romantic wooden boat, light picnic, cutting a bark boat, boat rally, local souvenir for everybody.

Good to know:

The boat can take maximum of 10 persons.
Trip to Vilsandi is fully weather dependant. Final decision is made by the boat captain.
In case of unsuitable weather conditions the sea trip will be replaced by a tour on Saaremaa.
Rain coats will be delivered if needed.
Proper outdoor clothing and hiking shoes are highly recommended.
