Family trip - Through the forest to the sea
We meet at the center of Vilsandi National Park in Loona Manor. We have a look at the heart of the ancient manor. Right beside it is an almost unnoticeable small hill where thousands of years ago lived the first seal-hunters of Ösel or Eysysla what we today call Saaremaa.
Old coastal road takes us through an almost unihabited village, over the fields, past the farms, and through the woods. We listen to the voices of the nature, read the signs of animals, explore stone walls. The folks of an ancient coastal farm have restored a wooden windmill. The road reaches to a century-old postal road that runs its course along the entire coast of Western Saaremaa.
At an old harbour with net sheds another harbour can be seen in the distance, as well as islets, waterbirds, and on the horizon the blinking lighthouse of Vilsandi island.
We board the inflatable boat and start our trip through the archipelago, visiting an uninhabited islet (except during bird nesting period).
On the way back we choose other exciting paths. The forest is safe and the Estonians have always been a people of woods and seas. In case of a snowy weather the trip can be held on skis. Every participant receives a nice keepsake à la Saaremaa.
